museum hopping! yes, i have no formal training on pretty much any of the museums i have been to, but my current museum visit count (including repeats) is 350 (eek!) and ~41% of the top "paintings to see before you die."

1001 paintings to see before you die

i recently found this book, 1001 Paintings You Must See Before You Die by Stephen Farthing. it contains a list of paintings from pre-1400s to current 2000s screened by experts in the field. i love it! i have converted all of the paintings in the book into an excel as i start to track which ones i have seen! i have currently viewed 241 out of 1001, so i am riding right around 24%. take a peek at which ones are on the list !

huaca de la luna y del sol and museo huacas de moche

my last, but definitely not least post from my peruvian museum hopping! i am going to combine the huaca de la luna y del sol and the museo huacas de moche for the blog post since they are affiliated and very much interlinked. this is where we had our last bit of peruvian sightseeing up in trujillo. stephen, my sister's new brother-in-law, highly recommended visiting the museum and the huaca. the museum reminded me a lot of the museo larco , but this one was only focused on the moche people , which inhabited trujillo. the museum had all the spanish descriptions translated to english, which was great. the information was very engaging. we also enjoyed not being reliant on a guide and could move around the museum at our own pace. the moche people were one of the most sophisticated civilizations for the time period with sophisticated rituals, art and engineering. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

After we checked in our hotel in Hiroshima, we hopped on a street car and went to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park . The park is a sobering reminder of the devastation and destruction from World War II. The park is a few hundred meters from the epicenter of the atomic bomb, which was dropped on August 9, 1945 and then three days later in Nagasaki. The building in this photo is of the A-Bomb dome, a UNESCO heritage site, and one of the few buildings that survived the bombing. The park is full of specific memorials focused on different groups. One example is a monument in honor of students that were studying abroad in Hiroshima. We also went into one of the two museum buildings. It really demonstrated the large impact of the bomb. The first hand accounts are truly touching. The area's residents continue to be impacted as the effects last and have ongoing impact. Given no one had ever seen the bomb before, ...
