museum hopping! yes, i have no formal training on pretty much any of the museums i have been to, but my current museum visit count (including repeats) is 350 (eek!) and ~41% of the top "paintings to see before you die."

1001 paintings to see before you die

i recently found this book, 1001 Paintings You Must See Before You Die by Stephen Farthing. it contains a list of paintings from pre-1400s to current 2000s screened by experts in the field. i love it! i have converted all of the paintings in the book into an excel as i start to track which ones i have seen! i have currently viewed 241 out of 1001, so i am riding right around 24%. take a peek at which ones are on the list !

vancouver aquarium

during our walk through stanley park , we went to the vancouver aquarium to check out the dolphins and sea otters and the beluga whales . it was a drizzling rain and gloomy. the aquarium has some indoor and some outdoor exhibits, which we did not quite realize going into it. the aquarium was quite easy to get around and had a number of above tank and beside the tank viewing spots (especially important for the whales and dolphin viewing). we went to a few different shows, dolphins , beluga whales , seals and sea otters , while we were there. we loved seeing the large mammals. the shows were definitely written for children, but we learned some new little tidbits, particularly in the beluga show. it was also interesting to see the exhibit on the local northwest coast. the best part (and i cannot believe i forgot to put this part) was the rescued pacific white-sided dolphin, daisy. if you head to the ...

Morgan Library

I was in a suburb of New York City two weeks ago and had to get to the Morgan Library . It has been a number of years since I have been able to make it there and it is probably my favorite place in New York. This aptly was visit #10! It is peaceful and full of light in the museum. It was busy in there, but still quiet. I continue to love how elegantly the museum meshed contemporary with the traditional elements. Not sure if you can see it, but the grates are full of birds I focused on my visit on three major exhibits: John Singer Sargent: Portraits in Charcoal , Verdi: Creating Otello and Falstaff-Highlights from the Ricordi Archives , and the main library wing . I really like the John Singer Sargent oil painting portraits. He is quite well known for these paintings that he completed in the early portion of the 1900s including many of the souls and their children. He painted so many famous people of that time period.
