Museum Hopper

I happened to be in New York for a quick minute and I ran into Museum of Modern Art .  I wanted to revisit some of the classics.  MoMA felt like I had never left it other than the entrance moving to a different spot due to construction on the main entrance.   I headed in, got my ticket and headed up to the permanent collection. These are a few of my favorites.  In particular, I love the Van Gogh!   The Matisse is gorgeous.  The Monet is beautiful.  I continue to think it's a bit of a shame that they squish this collection into such a small physical space within the museum.   Times visited: 9 Time in museum: 45 minutes Overall: B+

last week, i was in new york city for a job interview.  since my flight was scheduled before i knew what time my interview was, i did have some time to kill before leaving for the airport.  my interview was basically across the street from the museum of modern art (moma), so i decided to pop into it for old time's sake. not much has changed since last year.  i did notice that some of the paintings had been arranged like van gogh's starry night.  i think was a good move, since it did seem to help with people flow throughout the museum (my biggest moma gripe).  henri matisse's dance is on loan until mid next year.  its location has also been moved.  it is in a much more prominent spot than it had been before.  you can actually see it now whereas before you had to know where it was to go seek it out. i did pop out into the sculpture garden for the first time in a long time.  it was nice to get a little bit more peace and quiet.  i love tha...

i went to the museum of modern art (moma) in between sessions with one of my fellow MBA students, tyler!   we showed up coincidentally right as the museum was opening.  it was absolutely packed.  we were able to "sneak" in using a membership ID allowing us to skip the line that was forming outside.  i have no idea if this is the normal case...it was unseasonally warm, lightly raining and a wednesday.  we had to wait in a bit of a line to get a ticket. it was the usual.  we visited the main two floors with the picassos , and van goghs and matisses and the monets .  he was surprised to see the monets in the modern art museum!  they were super crowded as usual, my biggest complaint about the moma. happy i made it back...it sure has been a while.  it did remind me of what i like about it, but also what i do not like about it! times visited: at least 7 time in museum: 1 hr overall: B+

so, i went to the museum of modern art alone a random sunday . i wanted to go since they had a couple of new exhibits i wanted to see: one about dali and some new picasso sculptures . i also hadn't been in a while, so i had forgotten about how much i dislike the way moma is setup. i went to the picasso sculptures first. they had about 10 of them. it was neat to see them in person. i think he had used a lot them (or similar objects) in his paintings. it was pretty crowded near the sculptures, but i could deal with it. it was a sunday after all. so, i headed upstairs to the dali exhibit. first of all, i had forgotten that dali only painted small paintings. i think the largest one in this exhibit was about 1 foot by 2 feet. this means that you have to get pretty close to the paintings to even see them. moma finally got the persistence of time back. second of all, the moma decided to use less than half a floor for this exhibit. they had quite a few of his p...

i have been to the museum of modern art at least 5 times. i have gone by myself, with friends, with family, just to look in the gift shop. all combinations. so, this museum was "recently" remodeled (i think in the last 5 years) so it is the best laid out museum of all of them. it is easy to navigate. items are well spaced, arranged well. the order of the art in the permanent exhibits makes sense. you can find the exhibit you are looking for quite easily. no getting lost in the moma. the permanent exhibits (floors 4 and 5) are well done although some of the items in it, i am not sure why they are there exactly...don't get me wrong, the picassos, van goghs, dalis, matisses, monets (even though, i don't really know why they are in moma) are beautiful. i don't really understand how 4 boxes of different colors belongs in the room next to monet's water lillies . they have a ton of picassos...a couple of rooms seem to be devoted exclusively to them. it...
