st-pierre cathedral

jason and i were recently in chamonix, france for a wedding and ended up visiting lyon, france and geneva, switzerland as well at the beginning of the trip.  when in geneva, you cannot miss the st-pierre cathedral.  it can be seen throughout town and was home to john calvin during the reformation.

we climbed to the top of the church, which has a spectacular view of the lake geneva harbour.  we were able to get quite close to the old bells.  it also appeared that one of the towers was built later than the other given the difference in stone color.

the interior of the church was quite plain compared to catholic churches built at the same time due to its protestant denomination.

it did have a video regarding the history of the cathedral.  it spoke about its catholic roots, but how it became protestant.  i will say the video could be improved though!  it was composed primarily of black-and-white photographs or sketches and was shown on a grey wall!  how on earth did they think it could be seen?!

overall, though, this visit to the cathedral was primarily for the view, not for what was inside the cathedral.  as one of the tallest points in geneva, it definitely lived up to its promise!

time in cathedral: 1.25 hrs
times visited: 1
overall: B+
