greenfield village

i went to greenfield village this weekend with my man friend, jason, and his college roommate, jon, his wife, and their two sons who are four and six.  the perfect crowd for greenfield village!  i love going with kids since it is so much fun to see their reactions to the houses, equipment and outfits.

we went on a very hot sunday!  i do not feel like we were as adventurous as we might have been if this had not been the case.  it also slowed us down a bit...

i was surprised at how much it was to go to greenfield village now and once we got inside, it did seem like we were a little more nickel and dime-ed than we had in the part.  jason remembered more of the activities being included with your admission and i do not remember a charge for the train, etc. (although that used to be included in the family pass [which it no longer is] so that may be why).

we started out visiting the artisan village, which i really did not remember from when i went as a child.  it was really fascinating to see how everything was made.  i felt very bad for the glass blowers!  wow, it was hot in there!  after the artisan village, we headed over to the farm.  i wish we could have been able to pet the animals.  everyone was seeking shade near the sheep!

the food selection was a little lackluster, but we were so hot, i am not sure it mattered much.  the village does have a large "souvenir" cup that can have complimentary refills for the rest of the day.  we definitely took advantage of those!  i wish they had a better system for the refills, since waiting in the line took for them took a long time.  but they did end up being life savers with the 90 degree+ day!

after lunch, we wandered over to "main street" enjoying the wright brothers' house and store as well as the general store and the carousel!  we do walk into menlo park as well where thomas edison created his inventions.  from there, we headed to "porches and parlors."  this was about as far as we wandered.  we were starting to suffer from the heat and the boys wanted to touch and play with things.  we headed back over to the village green and had some quality time with the toys from the 1800s!  we also decided to get frozen custard; definitely a smart move!

i am really happy we went and understand the high cost once we experienced the village, i swear they had about one employee for every two of us!  just wish there had been some air conditioning somewhere!

time in village: 5.5 hrs
times visited: 1 (in recent memory)
overall: A-
